From the last ice age until today

As the rest of Northern Germany, Ostholstein was formed during the ice age.

Huge ice sheets moved from Scandinavia to Central Europe during the last 600 000 years and completely covered the original landscape, mountains, valleys and rivers with ice and rock debris. It was not until the last ice age however, that Ostholstein obtained its definite form.
